Use AI for bounded reception and escalation, not autonomous safety diagnosis. A report of suspected gas escape or carbon monoxide must not become an ordinary appointment request or wait in a routine callback queue.
Gas Safe Register’s published guidance identifies 0800 111 999 for Great Britain and 0800 002 001 for Northern Ireland as gas emergency contacts; it directs LPG users to their supplier. A UK-wide deployment therefore needs geographically appropriate instructions rather than a single undifferentiated script. (gassaferegister.co.uk)
Before launch, require a competent safety lead to approve the complete escalation procedure. Our recommended controls are:
- Interrupt normal qualification when an emergency concern is raised.
- Deliver the approved emergency guidance without waiting to collect a full sales record.
- Do not diagnose the cause, suggest a repair or reassure the caller that equipment is safe.
- Do not imply that leaving an internal message has contacted an emergency service.
- Test what happens if a transfer fails or the on-call engineer does not answer.
- Preserve enough information for incident review without unnecessary sensitive detail.
Include a caller asking how to restart an appliance that an engineer has disconnected. HSE guidance says an appliance disconnected because it is unsafe should not be used. Your receptionist must not override that position. (hse.gov.uk)
Passing scripted tests is a launch requirement, not proof that every future call will be handled safely.
