Do-it-yourself game plans

When should you stop DIY and buy targeted help?

Buy help when the unsupported part of the project is identifiable. Do not respond to one technical obstacle by commissioning an undefined transformation programme.

Seek targeted assistance when:

  • Your software requires an approved integration or specialist permissions.
  • Nobody can verify duplicate protection, access boundaries or recovery.
  • Live booking involves complex competence, access or contractual constraints.
  • Privacy questions remain unresolved.
  • The workflow needs out-of-hours support that your team cannot provide.
  • Monitoring effort eliminates the expected operational benefit.

Ask for a fixed scope, explicit deliverables, acceptance tests, business-owned accounts, change-control terms and a practical exit. A supplier should be able to take over the evidence pack above rather than restart discovery from an attractive demonstration.

Choose no AI if a better callback rota, native reminder configuration or human answering service solves the problem more reliably at an acceptable total cost.
