Missed calls / EDITORIAL BRIEFING

How to stop missing calls in a heating business.

Start with the calls you can turn into completed work.

Count the recoverable work

A missed-call count is a starting point, not a sales forecast. Separate repeat callers, existing customers, unsuitable work and enquiries outside your service area. Then check which enquiries the office already recovers. Buying another answering channel should not claim credit for those jobs.

Read the diary before buying cover

Review the next available slot by competence, travel allowance and parts. Ten empty hours across a team may not accommodate a single specialist job. If capacity is the constraint, improving callbacks, scheduling or human cover may be the more useful intervention.

Run a bounded trial

Choose one service and one time window. Keep appointment approval with the office. Track each pseudonymised enquiry through request, confirmation and completion, then subtract usage, supervision and rework. Example: an evening enquiry can be retained for a morning callback without promising a visit.

Take this back to the office

01Measure unique suitable enquiries.

02Subtract existing callback recovery.

03Test one workflow before expanding.

Evidence & limits

Authored buying guidance, not a measured performance study. Examples are illustrative. No supplier outcome or account-specific integration is verified by this article.
